1968 Honda Z50 - Work in progress...sort of

The Z50 is one of those back burner projects. Its story goes like this: A friend of mine had it in his family for many years. It sat for a while, and he wanted to get it running, but didn't try very hard. It was sitting in his garage, and my girfriend said "coool, mini--bike," and asked him if he'd sell it for $50. She then asked me to pay him. Ha-ha.

I cleaned up and gapped the points, put some gas in it, and fired it up. Since the tank was rusty, I had my stock CRF450 tank wired to the handlebars so I could ride it around the backyard. Safety first.

We stripped and painted the frame and forks, POR15-ed the tank, changed the front tire, put an XR50 carb and uni filter on it, and replaced the cracked and poorly welded top triple clamp plate. I took the factory crimp out of the head pipe where it meets the muffler, and it got a lot louder. That's how it is for now.

It needs a lot. New handlebars, controls, seat/cover, top end, cables, jetting, fork legs/bushings/boots, fender, chain/sprockets, etc, etc.
